The artist Olaf Metzel, born in Berlin in 1952, is one of the most important contemporary German sculptors. In the retrospective exhibition in the Villa Schöningen and in the sculpture garden, works by him that were created between 1987 and 2014 will be shown. With his socially critical works, he reflects current events in recent history. In this process of tearing what has happened and perhaps also what has not been processed or repressed from oblivion, parallels can certainly be drawn with the spirit of the exhibition venue.

In the idyll of the garden of the Villa Schöningen, which as a former part of the exclusion zone of the GDR border regime also symbolizes state repression, the cast iron of a pistol sets a disturbing accent, as does the bronze sculpture "Turkish Delight" from 2006 : a female nude with a headscarf, with which Olaf Metzel addresses the controversy between Western and Islamic culture.
