YOU CAN'T

REMEMBER,

IS THE NIGHT

Valley R

ARCHIVE

From July 2 to October 16, 2016, Villa Schöningen is showing more than 30 installations by the Danish artist Tal R. Most of the works will be shown to the public for the first time in a spectacular show “The night you can't remember is the night I can 't forget “presented.

The artist Tal R is a master of mystification and exaltation of the everyday. The media of his oeuvre are varied: Tal R works with oil on canvas, he draws, works with collages, videos and creates sculptures and installations.

For the exhibition in the Villa Schöningen, all the halls on the first floor are darkened and form the presentation area for Tal R's overall installation: a total of 39 movable sculptures, light and shadow plays as well as smaller sound spaces.

Tal R describes the exhibition as the high point of a nine-year creative period in which he dealt with moving sculptures.

The historically significant location of the Villa Schöningen was meaningful for Tal R for this exhibition and its title “The night you can't remember is the night I can't forget”. The Glienicker Bridge and the Villa Schöningen are historical places of remembrance. Memory is linked to individual experience and is complex. The memory of a place also varies from different perspectives. Art also poses the question of perspective and only becomes meaningful through individual observation.

Tal R was born in 1967 as Tal Rosenzweig in Tel Aviv, Israel. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Denmark. Tal R now lives and works in Copenhagen. From 1986 to 1988 he attended the Billedskolen and then from 1994 to 2000 the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Tal R has held a professorship at the Düsseldorf Art Academy since 2005.
